Israel Flute Choir
The Israel Flute Choir was formed in 2014 by Eyal Ein-Habar, principal flutist of the Israel Philharmonic orchestra, who directed and conducted the group for its first two years.
The ensemble included piccolos, concert flutes, alto flutes, and bass flutes. A contrabass flute was subsequently added to the original group, thus encompassing the full range of soprano to bass.
In 2016, Hagar Shahal was appointed director and conductor. Under her direction the Israel Flute Choir appeared in many cultural centers and concert halls throughout Israel. Several well-known soloists have performed as featured artists with the flute choir including the principal flutists from the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Yossi Arnheim and Eyal Ein-Habar, and piccolo player Lior Eitan. The Israel Flute Choir also performed with the world renowned flutist Sir James Galway.

The ensemble has participated in master classes and in an international flute choir conference with much acclaim. Performances have been well received and highly praised. Its repertoire includes classical and modern music, from the renaissance through the 21st century.
Much of the music are arrangements of famous compositions originally written for orchestra or other instruments, while many newer compositions have been composed specifically for flute choir including two compositions which were composed specifically for the Israel Flute Choir.
In 2020, Michal Oren became the new director and conductor. Under her direction the group has continued to rehearse in accordance with Corona guidelines and will perform its upcoming concerts, live or virtual, as conditions permit.
A competition is also being held for new compositions for flute choir.
The Players
The flutists come from all over the country, and are predominantly music teachers and serious amateurs who rehearse and perform on voluntary basis. The members have bonded together and are ardently devoted to the choir and the music it produces.
The Israel Flute Choir members also participate in many related activities, attending lessons and workshops to improve playing and increase their general knowledge, working on new arrangements for flute choir music, and participating in planning concert performances.
The Israel Flute Choir is happy to welcome new members to the family.
